Quiet, historic Ocracoke village centered on Silver Lake and Irvin Garrish Highway (NC‑12). Short walks to shops, seafood restaurants, the Ocracoke Lighthouse, Silver Lake Harbor, and public Atlantic beaches. The vibe is laid‑back, seasonal and outdoors‑focused—great for beachgoing, birding, fishing and stargazing; services and businesses are concentrated in the Village area around the highway and harbor.

No bridges to the mainland—main options are vehicle or passenger ferries, private boat, or charter flights to Ocracoke Airport (W95). The island is compact and highly walkable in the Village; most visitors rent bicycles or golf carts. Limited local taxis/shuttles and a small number of rental cars available seasonally; plan for slower travel times during summer. Expect narrow roads, pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and occasional ferry waits; bring cash or card for local services.
